Measuring blood pressure with Easycare Digital Blood Pressure Monitor

Know your Bp Machine Reading: Normal, Elevated & High Blood Pressure

When you monitor your blood pressure, you get 2 measurements on your bp machine reading. First one (top) is your systolic pressure & the other one (bottom) is your diastolic pressure.

Both numbers are important for your health. Understanding your blood pressure results plays a key role in controlling it.

The pressure inside the arteries when your heart contracts and pumps blood throughout your body is known as systolic pressure. Diastolic pressure is the pressure inside the arteries when your heart is at rest.

What’s considered a normal bp machine reading?

A normal bp machine reading is considered to be between 90-120 systolic & 60-90 diastolic pressure.

What’s considered an elevated blood pressure?

An elevated blood pressure is the reading between 120-129 Systolic and below 80 Diastolic.

Blood Pressure Category Systolic (upper)   Diastolic (lower)
Normal Below 120 and Below 80
Elevated 120-129 and Below 80

High Blood Pressure

(Stage 1)

130-139 or 80-89

High Blood Pressure

(Stage 2)

140 or higher or 90 or higher
Hypertensive Crisis Above 180 and/or Above 120

High Blood Pressure - Stage 1 & 2

Stage 1: If your systolic blood pressure is between 130 and 139 mmHg, or your diastolic blood pressure is between 80 and 89 mmHg.

Stage 2: If your systolic blood pressure reading is 140 or higher, or if your diastolic blood pressure reading is 90 or higher.

What’s a hypertensive crisis?

A blood pressure reading above 180 systolic or higher and 120 diastolic or higher indicates a serious health problem. It can damage your blood vessels and can lead to a stroke & organ failure.

How to treat high blood pressure?

Diagnosed with High Blood Pressure & worried about it? Fret not, you aren’t alone & high blood pressure can be treated. Follow these tips to keep your blood pressure in control –

  1. Exercise Regularly
  2. Reduce Sodium Intake
  3. Add potassium to your diet
  4. Cut back on Caffeine
  5. Reduce your stress

Complication of High Blood Pressure

  1. Heart Attack – Excessive strain resulting from high blood pressure causes your arteries to narrow and thicken, which increases your risk of heart attack.

  1. Heart Failure – If your blood pressure is high, your heart has to work harder to pump blood throughout your body. Over time, this higher workload thickens and enlarges your heart which increases your risk of developing heart failure.

  1. Kidney Failure – Uncontrolled high blood pressure harms your kidneys by narrowing & weakening the arteries around it. As these arteries block, it stops functioning & eventually leads to kidney failure.

  1. Stroke – High blood pressure weakens the arteries in your brain, which can burst or clog easily putting you at risk of stroke.

  1. Loss of Vision – High blood pressure can damage the tiny blood vessels in your eyes, leading to bleeding in the eye & complete loss of vision.

The bottom line

Over time, untreated High Blood Pressure can lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as heart attack & stroke. Monitoring blood pressure at home is essential in preventing such complications. Self-monitoring your blood pressure at home is better than merely checking it at the doctor’s cabin. Monitor & manage your blood pressure with EASYCARE Blood Pressure Monitor before it causes permanent damage.
